🐾 Woodland trails, a peaceful lake, an open meadow and enough sniffs to keep even a post-op doodle happy. Whether you fancy a 45-minute wander or a couple of hours getting lost in nature, Rosliston Forestry Centre is one of those places you can visit time and time again without ever doing quite the same walk twice. 💚

After 10 very long days of post-spay recovery, Evie had finally been given the go-ahead by the vet to start getting back out and about. ❤️‍🩹 Anyone with a teenage, high-energy doodle will understand just how challenging those ten days were! The instructions were to avoid anything too strenuous, so we swapped zoomies for sniffaris... and Rosliston Forestry Centre was the perfect choice. 🐶👃🌳

Set within 154 acres of woodland and open countryside, there are several waymarked routes ranging from around ½ a mile up to 2½ miles. 🥾📍 That said... I don't think we've ever actually followed one of them! Half the fun is disappearing down all the little woodland trails that tempt you off the main paths to see where they lead.

This morning we headed left through the trees 🌲 before emerging into the open meadow 🌾. It's a lovely mix of environments, and the meadow is ideal if you've got dogs whose recall mysteriously disappears amongst woodland distractions... 😂🐾

From there we wandered past the peaceful Flight Pond, listening to the birds singing overhead. 🦆🎶 We crossed the bridge over Greenheart Lake 🌉💙 before following more shaded woodland paths back towards the visitor centre.

One of the things I love most about Rosliston is how flexible it is. Some visits are a 45-minute leg stretch, while others turn into a couple of hours of exploring depending on how the mood takes us. 🌿 There are so many paths that it never feels repetitive.

Despite being a popular place, there's so much space that it's usually easy to keep your distance from other walkers if you have a nervous or reactive dog. 🐕❤️ It's also brilliant for families, with regular nature trails and activities for children, plus lots of events throughout the year. 🍂🦋

If you arrive before 9am (which we nearly always do! 🌅), don't worry if the visitor centre is closed. You can still access the grounds through the gate to the left of the visitor centre entrance, so you don't have to wait for everything to open.

There's a huge car park 🅿️ with parking currently costing £1.50 for one hour, £3 for two hours or £4 all day, while entry to the Forestry Centre itself is free. 💷

There's also a café on site ☕ where well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. We tend to choose one of the picnic benches outside instead, simply because the indoor tables feel a little close together for our three. 🌳🪑

One little tip... avoid visiting between 9am and 10am on a Saturday if you're looking for a quieter walk, as that's when the popular Rosliston Parkrun takes place. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
