Greg half expected Robin Hood to pop out from behind a tree, which tells you everything about the atmosphere here.

Cademan Woods feels properly old — some of the oldest stones in the world, apparently, which gave Murphy the opportunity to practice his rock-climbing skills. Fun for him. Mildly nerve-racking for us.

The terrain is undulating with plenty of roots and rocks to navigate, so it's not the easiest underfoot, but that's part of what makes it feel so untouched. There's open countryside woven into the route too, which breaks up the woodland sections nicely and gives Murphy maximum sniffing variety.

He navigated us through the whole thing like he'd been coming here for years. He hadn't. He was winging it.

We covered 2 miles in just over an hour, which felt about right for the terrain. If you want to extend it, you can cross Warren Lane/Car Hill Road to Grace Dieu Priory woods and keep going.

Parking is in a small car park at the entrance — space for roughly 5 cars, with bins available. There's plenty of lay-by parking just outside if the car park's full.
