We stopped in for a quick drink after our visit to Market Bosworth Park, mostly because it was warm and Murphy had that look that says 'I've done my bit, now where's my water bowl?'

Dogs are allowed in the bar, and there's a courtyard seating area off the car park if you'd rather sit outside. We chose outside — partly for the shade, partly because Murphy had already clocked a cat in an upstairs window and I could see where this was heading.

It was a quiet afternoon, but even with a few more people inside it felt like there'd be enough space for dogs to settle without being in everyone's way. There was a water bowl by the door, which Murphy inspected and approved of immediately.

It's not a dog-focused venue — no puppachinos, no treat jar on the bar, no Instagram-ready dog menu — but sometimes that's exactly what you need. A swift pint, a shady seat, and a dog who's happy just to people-watch (and cat-watch, apparently).

The highlight for Murphy was the cat. He sat perfectly still for a solid five minutes, staring up at the window with the kind of focus I've never seen him apply to recall training. The cat, to its credit, looked entirely unbothered.
